Sweet Greens creativity turned into memorable celebrations

Entrepreneur and events creative Panashe Vakira is using event management, décor, catering and cake artistry to create memorable experiences while opening opportunities for young people in Zimbabwe.

Vakira is the founder and Creative Director of Sweet Greens Events, a Harare-based events brand specialising in weddings, traditional ceremonies, catering and custom cakes.

In a conversation with The List Awards by Identities Media, Vakira said his love for beauty, celebrations and people inspired him to pursue a career in the events industry.

“I have always been fascinated by how decor transforms a space and how a cake brings joy. Growing up, I helped family at gatherings and realised I had an eye for detail,” he said.

Through Sweet Greens Events, Vakira has provided décor and catering services for weddings, lobolas and corporate events in Kwekwe, Gweru, Beitbridge, Chitungwiza and Harare.

His work has also created income opportunities for young people who assist during peak seasons, while he has mentored young women interested in cake artistry.

Vakira said his business had demonstrated that quality event services could be delivered beyond major city centres while building a reputation for creativity, reliability and attention to detail.

Raised by a single mother, Vakira described himself as a self-driven entrepreneur who has grown Sweet Greens Events from a small community service into an established events brand.

He said being recognised as a semi-finalist under the Business Impact Award in The List Awards 2026 had given him and his business an opportunity to be recognised on a wider platform.

“Being a semi-finalist in The List Awards is an incredible honour. For me and Sweet Greens Events, it is validation that our work matters and is seen. It means a small brand from my community can stand on a national platform alongside established businesses,” Vakira said.

He added that winning would provide an opportunity to expand the business, attract larger clients and encourage other young entrepreneurs from rural communities.

Looking ahead, Vakira plans to grow Sweet Greens Events into a fully equipped events house, build a team of trained decorators and establish a leading cake studio in Zimbabwe.
