From Market Stalls to the Boardroom: How Chanazi Drums Washaya is Building an Empire of Women’s Empowerment
Chanazi Drums Washaya’s entrepreneurial drive was forged in the fires of early adversity and fueled by a powerful maternal legacy. Raised by a resilient late mother who successfully brought up seven children against formidable odds, Chanazi learned early on that business was the ultimate vehicle for self-determination.
“Entrepreneurship is more than business—it is survival, dignity, and transformation,” Chanazi says.
Her masterclass in business began at the tender age of eight. Standing behind a market stall, a young Chanazi fast-tracked her education in real-world economics, sharpening her skills in high-stakes negotiation, customer psychology, and pure grit. Those early days on the market floor didn’t break her spirit; instead, they laid the rock-solid foundation for the corporate leader she would become.
Revolutionizing Zimbabwe’s Food Sector
Today, Chanazi is the visionary Founder and Managing Director of Sweet Quip Food Equipment, a powerhouse commercial supplier that has become a vital cog in Zimbabwe’s hospitality and food industries. By sourcing and supplying high-quality, affordable commercial machinery to bakeries, butcheries, and restaurants nationwide, Sweet Quip doesn’t just sell equipment—it fuels the growth of hundreds of downstream small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) across the country.
Yet, scaling a successful industrial enterprise was only phase one of Chanazi’s larger vision. Understanding the unique institutional barriers women face in business, she channeled her success into institutional change by launching the Women Entrepreneurs Lounge. This dedicated initiative serves as a strategic incubator, providing thousands of women with executive mentorship, hands-on business training, and high-value networking ecosystems designed to bridge the gender gap in corporate Zimbabwe.
The Crowning of a Champion
Chanazi’s relentless work at the intersection of industry and advocacy recently culminated in the ultimate validation: being crowned the Winner of the prestigious Business Impact Award.
For Chanazi, standing on that national stage as the category champion is far more than a personal victory; it is a historic win for every grassroots woman who started with nothing but a dream.
“Being a finalist was an honor, but winning completely affirms our mission to empower women and creates the leverage we need to drastically amplify our impact,” she says.
An Unshakeable Commitment to Impact
With the Business Impact Award trophy now in hand, Chanazi is not slowing down. The accolade has only sharpened her focus to scale Sweet Quip’s regional footprint and expand the reach of the Women Entrepreneurs Lounge to the most remote corners of Zimbabwe.
“True impact is measured by the lives we transform every day,” Chanazi states
Her trajectory stands as a definitive blueprint for the modern African businesswoman—proving beyond a doubt that with an unyielding faith, radical innovation, and raw resilience, any woman can rise from the market stalls to transform an entire nation’s economic landscape.
