Formidable and Fierce: How Global Youth Leader Wadzanai Nyakabau is Amplifying the Voices of Zimbabwe’s Next Generation

Wadzanai Gracious Nyakabau does not believe youth are the leaders of tomorrow, she knows they are the powerhouses of today.

As the first runner-up for the Youth Impact Award and the visionary founder of Youth Dreams Zimbabwe, Wadzanai has solidified her status as one of the country’s most formidable civic disruptors, relentlessly dismantling barriers that block young women and youth from accessing governance, education, and leadership spaces.

“Knowledge is the ultimate equalizer. When you equip young people with a deep understanding of their constitutional rights, you transform them from passive spectators into active architects of their nation’s future,” she says.

Prolific Leadership & Institutional Footprints

Wadzanai’s influence spans the highest tiers of academic and civic leadership. A globally recognized changemaker, she was selected for the prestigious Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) program on Civic Engagement, tracking policy at the highest level as a Zimbabwe Youth Policy Tracker with the Zimbabwe Youth Council.

Her institutional footprint is staggering:

The Presidential Legacy: Served as the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the Catholic University of Zimbabwe and currently commands the nation as the National President of the Student Christian Movement of Zimbabwe.

Educational Vanguard: Her interactive masterclasses and civic workshops have directly empowered over 1,000 high school students, equipping them with digital literacy, career blueprints, and civic defense skills.

Climate & Gender Justice: As the Youth Arm Coordinator for the Climate Action Network Zimbabwe, she successfully pioneered institutional protections, including zero-tolerance sexual harassment policies.

Restoring Dignity at the Grassroots

Beyond policy and high-level boardrooms, Wadzanai’s heart remains firmly anchored in grassroots empathy. Recognizing that structural poverty halts education, she acts as the driving force behind Flow with Dignity, a fierce philanthropic initiative that battles period poverty by distributing vital sanitary products to thousands of disadvantaged girls in forgotten rural sectors.

For Wadzanai, her recognition at The List Awards is a collective victory for every young person she fights for.

“This nomination is validation that our collective voices are breaking through the noise,” she shares. “Winning isn’t just an honor; it’s fuel to scale our operations, secure strategic partnerships, and ensure no Zimbabwean youth is left in the shadows.”
