Chipato champions African changemakers through storytelling

Keegan Chipato is a Harare-based storyteller, media consultant, business strategist, brand consultant, entrepreneur and author whose work focuses on amplifying the voices of changemakers across Africa.
He is a semi-finalist under the Storyteller/Journalism Impact Award category at The List Awards 2026.
Raised by a single mother, Chipato’s educational journey was disrupted by financial challenges, resulting in a two-year interruption. Instead of allowing these circumstances to determine his future, he embraced self-education and developed his craft through storytelling, media and continuous learning.
In a conversation with The List Awards by Identities Media, Chipato said his understanding of storytelling changed as he grew within the media industry,
“Storytelling is a tool I discovered could create a platform to amplify the voices of changemakers across Africa,” he says.
He initially pursued media with the ambition of building a name for himself, but his focus gradually shifted towards using his platform to create an impact. He began intentionally telling stories of people making a difference in their communities and society, particularly stories that can inspire and empower young Africans.
“Honestly, I wanted to build a name for myself within the media space. But as I grew, my focus shifted from myself to the people I could impact,” Chipato added
His work has earned recognition, including the Best in Media and Journalism Award at the Ignite Youths Awards 2024. He has also been featured on the Journey to You Podcast and its magazine and has served as Operations Director at Living in Victory Magazine and Social Media Strategy Manager at WorldStageSEO.
Chipato is currently Founder and CEO of ACRI Group, Operations Director at Living in Victory Magazine and Senior Writer at Motimagz Magazine. He also has four forthcoming books, adding to his growing body of work across media, business and storytelling.
For Chipato, becoming a finalist at The List Awards is an acknowledgement of both his journey and the wider purpose behind his work. He views the recognition as an opportunity to bring greater attention to African changemakers and the stories that deserve a wider audience.
“Being a finalist for The List Awards is a meaningful reflection of how far my journey has come and the impact that storytelling can create,” he says.
Regardless of the outcome, Chipato’s focus remains on using storytelling to amplify African voices, celebrate changemakers and demonstrate how stories can inspire, connect people and create meaningful opportunities.
