Vincent Gurure builds Bulawayo’s media legacy

Vincent S. Gurure has spent years creating opportunities for talent in Bulawayo, building media platforms and developing skills in an industry he believes can transform communities when people are given the space to create and be heard.

His journey began in sound engineering, driven by what he describes as a simple but significant challenge: a shortage of platforms for the city’s creative talent.

“I was inspired by lack. Bulawayo had talent but no platforms,” Gurure reflected.

In a conversation with The List Awards by Identities Media, Gurure explained that his vision has always extended beyond his own career. Through the Africa Media Skills Development Academy, he has shared skills with audio engineers, filmmakers, camera operators, lighting technicians, editors, as well as radio and television presenters.

Gurure is a semi-finalist in the Entertainment Impact Award category at The List Awards 2026.

“I didn’t just want to produce music and films but to build the stations, train the presenters, engineers and filmmakers, and start Bulawayo’s only private TV and Radio stations so the next child doesn’t have to leave Bulawayo to be seen.”

His contribution to the creative sector has also included working with established productions and artists, including Black Umfolosi and Amakhosi under Cont Mhlanga. His work has taken him beyond Zimbabwe, including touring England, before returning to establish his own audiovisual production label.

Gurure has also produced and worked on productions such as Sandra, Jays, Beata, Intwenhle, Skuza and Iyasa, while supporting artists and creatives to reach audiences locally and beyond.

Being recognised by The List Awards has added another dimension to that journey.

“Being a semi-finalist in The List Awards is proof that building from Bulawayo matters,” he noted.

Yet recognition is not the measure of his ambition. Gurure believes the work itself is the lasting achievement, particularly when it creates platforms for others to grow.

“Winning or losing, the future is the same: I build.”

His vision remains centred on helping Bulawayo create, broadcast and ultimately own its narrative, while ensuring that the next generation has more opportunities to develop, tell stories and be seen from home.
