The Selection Committee

To ensure transparency, integrity and independence of the process of The List Awards, the Board of Advisors decided to appoint the Selection Committee, which would serve in the processes of nominations right to time of handing over awards at the ceremony. This is an independent board that works with secretariat but is not influenced by either the Board of Advisors or the Secretariat. The Selection Committee sets up parameters for nominations, selection, are responsible for whole nomination process, screening, to the very end. They are responsible for the frame of all the awards and their parameters.

Kudzai Deve

Ms Kudzai Deve - Chair Person

Kudzai Belinda Deve is a trainer and strategist with over 15years experience in leadership and team building working with corporates and entrepreneurs. She specialises in collaborative dynamics, for high performing teams. Kudzai is a Social Entrepreneurship Boot Camp Award winner 2015, competitively selected for the Young African Leaders Initiative: a Mandela Washington Fellow 2016. Within this period, she received the USADF Business Pitch Competition Award.  Currently, Kudzai has been nominated as a Trinity Leadership Fellow 2024-2025 with Trinity Wall Street Church.

Farai Chitombo

Farai Chitombo - Vice Chair Person

Farai Chitombo is a distinguished educator and researcher with a robust background in both academia and international project management. As a seasoned university lecturer, Farai has imparted knowledge and inspired students through comprehensive teaching and research.

With over 13 years of experience in project management with an international non-governmental organization, Farai has demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills, contributing significantly to the success of various development programming including educational initiatives. Currently, Farai serves as the acting Education Advisor for an International NGO leveraging a wealth of expertise to guide and support educational programs.

Farai is also a dedicated member of the ECOZI Board, actively contributing to the development and implementation of impactful educational policies. Academically, Farai holds a Master of Community Psychology, a Master of Child Sensitivity Social Policy, and is currently pursuing a Master of Educational Leadership and Management. Additionally, Farai possesses an Executive Certificate in International WASH and a Diploma in Education.

Farai’s educational journey includes attending prestigious institutions such as the University of Nevada, Reno (USA), the University of Zimbabwe, Women’s University in Africa, Zimbabwe Open University, and the Catholic University of Zimbabwe. This diverse academic background, combined with extensive professional experience, underscores Farai’s commitment to advancing education and making a meaningful impact in the field.

Bridget Mambo

Bridgetti G Mambondiani - Secretary

Bridgetti G Mambondiani is a dedicated lawyer specializing in Human Rights and Environmental law. She serves as a Junior Court Council Director and has received prestigious awards for her outstanding contributions, including the Youth Participation Award and Humanitarian and Voluntary Work Award. Additionally, Bridgetti is a talented poet, having won a Poetry Award. Her multifaceted accomplishments showcase her commitment to creating positive impact in various fields.

Nompilo

Nompilo Simanje - Legal Advisor

Nompilo Simanje is a lawyer by profession and an expert on the intersection of the law, technology and human rights. She currently works as the Africa Advocacy and Partnerships Lead at the International Press Institute.

Mercy

Mercy Dandira - Committee Member

Mercy Dandira  is a dedicated environmental practitioner, demographer, and advocate for women’s and children’s rights. She champions women’s empowerment through education and training. With a range of roles, including strategic advisor and psychosocial support therapist, she currently supports Tag a Life International as Programs and Communication Assistant, Girls and young women’s rights organisation working in Africa to advance the rights of girls and young women, founded by a Zimbabwean woman called Nyaradzo Mashayamombe.

Kudakwashe

Kudakwashe Mzembe - Committee Member

Kudakwashe Mzembe is the Projects Developer at Grandis Africa, an EPC firm focusing on solar energy projects, electrical contracting and technology. He is driven by the belief that business should exist as an agent for change in society. Kuda is involved in several non-profit ventures including being a founding member of ThriveVBF, a professional and personal development forum that trains and equips young business professionals and entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe. He is a Mandela Washington Fellow who was selected under President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative. Under this program he took part in a high-level leadership training as a visiting scholar at Rutgers University in New Jersey and completed a Supply Chain and Sustainability program at Rutgers Business School. He has presented at several international conferences on the topics of energy, entrepreneurship and sustainability.

Here are the terms of reference for The List Awards Selection Committee. The List Awards Selection Committee plays a crucial role in the process of determining and bestowing awards that recognize and ensure integrity and transparency of any awards. The goal is to make sure that there is independence between the Advisory Board and Secretariat of The List Awards leaving the role to an independent Selection Committee. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing Criteria: Establishing Criteria: The Selection Committee is responsible for defining the specific criteria and guidelines that will be used to evaluate nominees to ensure the integrity and transparency of the awards. The criteria typically revolve around demonstrable actions, policies, and behaviours that exemplify ethical conduct, accountability, and openness in process of the awards.

  • Ensuring that all nominations meet the eligibility criteria: The Selection Committee is responsible for carefully reviewing each nomination to ensure that it meets the established eligibility criteria. This includes verifying that the nominees are from the appropriate sectors or categories, have met the required performance standards or milestones, and have provided the necessary supporting documentation.
  • Nominations and Evaluation: The Selection Committee oversees the nomination process, reviewing and assessing the submitted applications and supporting evidence. They carefully evaluate each nominee’s achievements, contributions, and adherence to the established criteria for the integrity and transparency awards.
  • Evaluating nominations based on merit, achievement, and impact: The Selection Committee thoroughly evaluates each eligible nomination, assessing the nominee’s actions, initiatives, and overall contributions that demonstrate a strong commitment to integrity and transparency. They consider the measurable impact the nominee has had, the level of innovation or pioneering work, and the broader influence on the industry or community.
  • Selecting finalists and winners through a fair and unbiased process: Selecting finalists and winners through a fair and unbiased process: The Selection Committee follows a structured and objective decision-making process to identify the finalists and ultimately select the award winners according to the agreed framework including regarding the voting process. This involves establishing clear scoring criteria, conducting rigorous discussions, and ensuring that personal biases or conflicts of interest do not sway the final decisions.
  • Ensuring that the awards process is free from conflicts of interest and bias: The Selection Committee is responsible for maintaining the integrity and impartiality of the awards process. They proactively identify and manage any potential conflicts of interest, real or perceived, among the committee members or within the nominee pool. They also implement measures to mitigate any undue influence or bias that could undermine the fairness of the selection process.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality and independence of the awards process: The Selection Committee is tasked with preserving the confidentiality of the nominations, deliberations, and final decisions.   • Reporting to ‘The List’ Awards Board of Advisors once all processes have been completed.
