Receiving The List Award as a runner-up for the Human Rights Impact Award meant a great deal to Chinga Govhati. She expressed that this recognition validates her commitment to human rights work, especially in a sector often marked by challenges and setbacks. “Being recognized becomes the impetus to work even harder, knowing that the work is not in vain after all,” she remarked.

Chinga leads the Girls Empowerment Trust (GET), a peer-led program founded in 2021 aimed at empowering girls and young adolescents up to 18 years old. She firmly believes that this recognition enhances her credibility as a human rights practitioner, motivating her to create a more impactful strategies for vulnerable women and girls. “I am encouraged to create more presence for the work that I do, ensuring rapid response to GBV sufferers and coordination among service providers,” she noted.

The most rewarding aspect of her work is linking women and girls with the help they desperately need, often working behind the scenes to bring them relief and justice. Chinga emphasizes the importance of community collaboration, stating, “One changemaker can help, but imagine the magnitude of support if more than one impact leader comes together.”

Reflecting on her experience with The List Awards, Cinga appreciated the transparent nomination process and timely communication. However, she suggested that simpler awards for runners-up would leave a lasting impact. “A little or smaller trophy makes a lasting impression,” she remarked.

Chinga is committed to fostering collaboration among past winners and emerging leaders through online convenings, encouraging a consortium of awardees to work together.
