Celebrating The Unsung Heroes At The List Awards

The List Awards celebrated not only well-known figures but also unsung heroes whose contributions often go unnoticed. Among them was Elizabeth Gundu, a remarkable woman from Marondera who won the Climate and Environment Impact Award.

Elizabeth Gundu, through Clean Marondera, has made a significant impact on the community by spearheading various environmental initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and ecological awareness. Overwhelmed with emotion, Elizabeth could hardly believe she had won, struggling to walk to the stage to accept her award. Her dedication to environmental conservation has inspired many in her community, and this recognition serves as a testament to her hard work and passion for creating a sustainable future.

Ernest Muduwa, the winner of the Sports Impact Award, also experienced a moment of disbelief upon receiving his accolade. Known for his commitment to promoting sports among the youth, Ernest has tirelessly worked to provide opportunities for young athletes in his community. His win was not just a personal achievement; it represented the collective efforts of all those who strive to uplift others through sports and mentorship.

Sasha Ndebele from Matobo District, winner of the Social Impact Award, shared her heartfelt gratitude during the event, highlighting the significant change this recognition would bring to her life. She expressed how this award has gained her respect and support from her family and community. Sasha has made significant contributions to reducing teenage pregnancies in her community. Through disseminating Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) information and services at schools and in her community, she has empowered young people to make informed decisions about their health. Additionally, she has provided training on income-generating activities, such as making detergents and Tsotso stoves, equipping youths with valuable skills and knowledge to earn a living.

For years, her immediate family struggled to understand her commitment to helping others, often without any acknowledgment. “This will change my mother’s perspective about my voluntary work, and I will gain the respect and support of my community,” said Sasha. Her story underscores the importance of recognition in fostering understanding and appreciation for selfless acts of service.

Hope Masike, the winner of the Entertainment Impact Award, was also celebrated for her influential work in the creative industry. Hope’s public struggle with fibroids, which included facing criticism from a public newspaper for her bravery in raising awareness about women’s health issues, has made her a powerful advocate. She has since accessed medical attention and is now fully healed. Her journey emphasizes how creatives can use their platforms to address significant issues and inspire positive change.

Additionally, Leonard Chibhamu, winner of the Artist Pan African Impact Award, was recognized for his dedication to promoting African culture through his art. Leonard’s work transcends borders, celebrating the richness of African heritage and advocating for unity among African nations. His influence serves as a reminder of the power of art in fostering cultural awareness and community building.

The List Awards not only honor these individuals but also amplify their stories, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and continue making a difference in their communities. It also enables community leaders to respect them. As The List Awards, we hope that these awards will elevate the work of these community champions with potential donors and strategic partners. Additionally, each of the Award Winners and Finalists has become a member of our alumni network, where they continue to support and connect with each other in their endeavors.
